DUOTTS Flat Tire Fix: Repair a Puncture in 20 Minutes
You Hear That Hissing Sound – Now What?
You’re halfway through your ride. Then – psssssshhhh. The rear tire goes soft. You’re stuck.
A flat tire on your DUOTTS e-bike is frustrating, but it doesn’t have to end your day. Most punctures can be fixed on the spot with basic tools and a little know-how.
This guide covers how to repair a puncture on a DUOTTS e-bike, what to carry on every ride, and how to prevent flats in the first place.
What Type of Tire Does Your DUOTTS Have?
Most DUOTTS e-bikes (C29, N26, E26, etc.) use standard pneumatic tires with inner tubes. Some off-road models may have tubeless-ready rims.
- Inner tube tires – Most common. When punctured, the tube deflates. You can patch or replace the tube.
- Tubeless tires – Less common. Sealant self-repairs small holes. Bigger punctures need a plug.
This guide focuses on inner tube tires (the majority of DUOTTS models). If you’re unsure, check your tire sidewall.
3 Steps to Fix a Flat Tire on Your DUOTTS E-Bike
Step 1: Get the Tools You Need
Minimum kit to carry on every ride:
- Two tire levers (plastic, not metal – metal can damage your rim)
- A spare inner tube (correct size – check your tire: e.g., 27.5×2.1″ or 700×45c)
- A mini pump or CO2 inflator
- A patch kit (for backup)
Nice to have at home:
- A bucket of water (to find the leak)
- Sandpaper or metal scraper (for patching)
- Chalk or marker
⚠️ Note: DUOTTS does not sell tubes or patches. These are standard bicycle parts available at any local bike shop.
Step 2: Remove the Wheel and Tire
- Remove the wheel – On most DUOTTS e-bikes, you’ll need a 15mm or 18mm wrench for the axle nuts. Don’t forget to disconnect the motor cable (if rear wheel) – squeeze the connector and pull apart gently.
- Release all air – Press the valve core to let out remaining air.
- Use tire levers – Hook one lever under the tire bead, then use a second lever to work around the rim. Remove one side of the tire completely.
- Pull out the tube – Start opposite the valve. Gently pull the tube out.
Step 3: Find the Leak and Repair It
Option A – Install a spare tube (fastest on the road):
- Lightly inflate the new tube – just enough to give it shape.
- Carefully place it inside the tire, starting at the valve.
- Push the valve through the rim hole.
- Tuck the tube evenly, then push the tire bead back onto the rim using your palms (avoid pinching the tube).
- Inflate to the pressure listed on the tire sidewall (usually 30-50 PSI).
Option B – Patch the old tube (saves money at home):
- Inflate the tube slightly and submerge it in water – bubbles will show the puncture.
- Mark the spot, then dry the tube completely.
- Sand the area around the puncture until rough.
- Apply rubber cement from your patch kit, wait 30 seconds, then apply the patch.
- Press firmly for 60 seconds. Then reinstall as above.
What If the Tire Itself Is Damaged?
- Small cut (<5mm) – You can install a “boot” (a piece of strong fabric or a dollar bill) inside the tire to protect the tube.
- Large cut or sidewall tear – The tire needs replacement. Ride slowly to the nearest bike shop or call for a pickup.
- Broken valve – Replace the tube. Valves cannot be repaired.
How to Prevent Future Flats on Your DUOTTS
- Keep tires inflated to the correct pressure – Under-inflated tires pinch-flat more easily. Check pressure weekly.
- Install puncture-resistant liners (like Tannus Armour) – These go between tire and tube.
- Use Slime or sealant inside your tubes – Seals small punctures as they happen.
- Avoid riding through construction zones or obvious debris – Sometimes the best fix is avoiding the nail.
- Check your tire tread for embedded glass or thorns – Do this every few weeks.
FAQ (Featured Snippet Target)
Q1: Can I fix a flat tire on my DUOTTS without removing the wheel?
A: For rear punctures, you almost always have to remove the wheel because the motor cable is attached. Front wheels can sometimes be patched while on the bike, but removing is easier.
Q2: How do I know if my DUOTTS tire is tubeless?
A: Check the sidewall – it will say “Tubeless Ready” or “TLR”. Also, tubeless valves are rubber-sealed, not standard threaded valves.
Q3: What PSI should I put in my DUOTTS tires?
A: Look at the tire sidewall. Typical range: 30-50 PSI for hybrid tires, 20-30 PSI for fat tires. Never exceed the max.
Q4: My DUOTTS keeps getting flats in the same spot. Why?
A: There may be a sharp object embedded in the tire itself. Run your hand carefully inside the tire to feel for glass or wire. Remove it with tweezers.
Q5: Can I ride on a completely flat tire?
A: No. You will damage the tire sidewall, the rim, and possibly the motor. Walk the bike or call for help.
